Next year will see the introduction of an all-new electric motorcycle racing series backed by the Fedration Internationale de Motocyclisme – the sport’s sanctioning body. As of right now, there are three races on the schedule in France and Qatar, though a fourth race in Spain expected to be announced soon. FIM isn’t saying how many teams it has on the grid or who they are just yet.
FIM had been working closely with TTXGP – another electric bike racing series – to draw up rules for the fledgling sport, and no one’s exactly certain why the two bodies have parted ways. TTXGP hosted its first-ever EV bike race on the Isle of Man back in June, and a total of 13 teams participated in the competition. Time will tell whether the FIM’s efforts in the sport will help or hurt TTXGP’s work. Either way, an international race series is bound to draw more competitors out of the woodwork.
