Mission One

Things are looking up for our favorite electric motorcycle manufacturer. Mission Motors just announced the company is on the verge of signing a deal with Zongshen – a Chinese motorcycle company – that would benefit both parties. Mission says the move would allow Zongshen access to the company’s super slick electric drivetrain technology, meaning we may see quite a few more electric bikes on the streets of China very soon.

So what does Mission Motors get out of the deal? Lots and lots of cash. As you may imagine, running a boutique bike operation is an expensive venture, and if the company is going to succeed in the near future, odds are it’s going to need either this deal or something like it to stay afloat. With a large company like Zongshen on its side, Mission Motors could conceivably inch closer to wide-scale production here in the United States – hopefully knocking down the cost of the Mission One in the process. Of course, the deal will need to shape up considerably before anyone can start having visions of inexpensive electric bikes here in the states.

Zongshen has asked Mission Motors for a detailed three-year business plan by the end of this month before it makes a decision one way or the other. Here’s hoping everything goes well for the Mission Motors crew.
