![]() While electric car production here in the United States is dragging its heels, the electric motorcycle segment is heating up in a big way. There?s a new addition to the two-wheeled electric crowd, this time from Electric Moto Corporation ? a California-based manufacturer. The company?s debut bike, the EMAX 72DS, packs hardware good enough to make it a serious competitor among the more established e-bike producers out there. There?s a 14 kw electric motor and a 72 volt battery pack on board, and according to Electric Moto Corporation, that?s good enough for a three-hour ride time. While there electric motor is only good for 21 horsepower and 30 lb-ft of torque, the bike can hit 60 mph and serve double duty as an off road/street commuter. The price tag is only $9,995, which is around $3,000 more than an equivalent dual-sport internal combustion bike from Honda, but the EMAX 72DS is an impressive first offering from an otherwise unheard of manufacturer. No word on how long it will take to charge this thing. Source EMC |
